Oh geez, I shoudn't have opened this thread. I'm an English teacher and reading your messages makes me want to work even harder

You are that someone who can help us!

I don´t like that you come here and laugh to us. If you are perfect so I´m not! That is the reason why I´m in this ketju. What is your reason?

I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at myself! I clicked this thread, because I'm interested in English. For obvious reasons. Hate to disappoint you, but I'm not perfect either...

Et vaikka tunnut niin luulevan.

Where did you get that idea? In fact, there's a punctuation error in my previous post. So that proves that I'm not perfect.

Surely one doesn't need to be perfect to be able to converse in English. I think it puts a lot of people off from trying if they think that their grammar and vocabulary must be just so. To begin with, it's more important to just get your message accross and have fun. You can worry about punctuation later... :)

Yes I think so too. But too many people is thinking that if you talk or write wrong you are just idiot or something. Everyone just don't have opportunity to leave away from Finland and learn english more. The best way to learn is moving abroad, I think.

Well obviously you should. It's amazing how some people don't know even the basics. Typos and grammar mistakes are common, but the way people don't even understand the very basic words in English (considering that they usually all study/have studied English at least in some point in their lives). I mean, how can you NOT learn the language, at least in some very small level? Makes me think the quality standards in schools are very, very low.

LOL this topic is amusing.

People who're conserned about their rusty English skills should just pick up a novel or magazine that's in English and start reading. I've always thought it's a great way of learning new words and structures, and it's also entertaining. Another tip I'd like to offer - audiobooks in English! There are tons and tons of options to choose from and you'll be amazed at how quickly you'll learn. I know I was.

Or you know, just rent a movie and watch it without the Finnish subtitles. It might take a little moment to get used to, but soon enough you'll notice you didn't really need the subtitles in the first place...

Kyllä, on aivan järkyttävää, kuinka huonosti ihmiset osaavat englantia. Onhan sitä sentään koulussa opeteltu ja päivittäinkin siihen törmää.

Yes, it is quite shocking how badly people can speak English. After all it is, after all memorized in school, and the upgrade of hits.

Hmm, quite nice.. Discussing in English. :) I think, that a good way to learn is to read books etc or watch tv or movies without subtitles, or listen to music and then write down the lyrics.
And I just have to say, that some people just can't learn other languages, they just don't have the ability to learn languages. Like my sister, she just can't learn English. No matter how hard she studies it, it just doesn't stay in her head. To some, learning a another language comes easilly, to some it doesn't, just like some people can draw pictures or play an instrument and some just can't.

Hm .. Would it be possible to download these English audio books from the Internet?? It would be a really good idea, because even though I read books in English, it would be even better to read them with correct pronounce.
